Do you ever look at someone and wonder what their deepest, darkest secret is? A “secret” is piece of information that is hidden from another person, and in some cases, hidden from one’s own self. The idea of having secrets within yourself can be traced back to having a multiple personality disorder. This disorder is when a single person experiences more than one personality in them self. A result of this disorder could be many different, erratic behaviors.

My artwork represents the physical view of having multiple personalities. I chose to use lightness and darkness in my photo to convey the meaning. The darker side of my photo shows the negativity in her life and her “dark” personality. The lighter side shows how she wants to be happy but the darkness is too overpowering that she can’t find that goodness in her life. I also used her facial expression to portray the impact a disorder like that can have on a person. She appears desperate and depressed.

My initial inspiration came from the concept of one person having two different moods. Once I explored this concept more, I came across the idea to have my subject portray a disorder. I decided that a multiple personality disorder fit the concept I wanted to show.
