A blank canvas is not just a physical object that has nothing on it. When saying something is a “blank canvas”, it is meant that it is untouched, new, no marks, etc. I took this concept and used it for my photo. I created the idea that anyone can erase their identity and start completely over in life. When this happens, the person is brand new, has no flaws, and can create their life how they want to.

My artwork portrays a girl holding a blank, white sheet of paper over her face so that it is covered. We cannot see this girls facial expression, and nothing is revealed about her. By using this white sheet of paper, I also created the concept and physically drawing out her life. If she wanted to plan out her life, she could pick up a pen and draw her future on that piece of paper.

I got my inspiration from a debate that most have argued over. Whether or not a person can start over completely. In my opinion, people cannot change and will always stay the same. Their will always be a piece of a person’s past in them, that they can’t escape, no matter how hard they try. I chose to portray the opposite of my beliefs because I wanted to get a different perspective from how others view this debate.
