Narrative Panorama

The story behind my panorama is a girl that is happy, and doing something she loves. She is holding a lacrosse stick, and standing in front of the goal like she is about to shoot. I chose this idea because I wanted to portray something that makes me happy and that I like to do, and show it through my photo. I thought of many ways on how to take photos of someone playing lacrosse and how I could incorporate distortion in my photo. I decided on having someone’s back turned to the camera while holding a lacrosse stick, and the stick would be different sizes in each photo. The distortion is that the lacrosse stick doesn’t match up and is all different sizes.

The process of printing our panorama took a little while. To make the panorama match up exactly how you want it to, you have to consider many things. First, since each photo may not be the same exposure, you have to make sure all of the photos, when printed, have the same contrast. This was time consuming because if you don’t know the exact exposure time or the right filter, you may have to print a few prints before you find the correct one. This allows the panorama to come together better and look right. Another reason why the process of printing the panorama took a while is because of the matching up. If you want your prints to be exactly matched up with one another, it may take some prints before you find the perfect focus and layout. Although you can match up your prints in the dark room, they always look different when they are in regular lighting so multiple prints tend to happen when printing panoramas.

In my opinion, I enjoyed presenting my art in panorama form. This is because, it was different, it allowed us to be more creative, and it ends up looking unique and interesting. This is the first time we have made a panorama and although it took awhile, it was different from any other print we did and that allowed me to be interested in it. With panoramas, we have more freedom because we can create any story we want and we can portray it in anyway we want. It allowed us to think more creative by trying to pull the photos together in order create one image. Finally, these panoramas are unique looking because of the distortion. For your photos to go together, they don’t have to be matched perfectly and when they aren’t, it makes them more enjoyable to look at.

Throughout the process of making the panoramas, there are many errors that could have occurred. First, just like any film, there could have been mistakes when developing and processing film. This would have messed up the film in the very beginning of the process. Next, while deciding which photos to print, you could notice that are errors in your shooting and that there is one or two objects that are in every photo when they are not supposed to be. This would result in having to reshoot. Lastly, a big error is that your story being told could have not been portrayed well in your panorama. This means, that a person looks at your panorama and they don’t have a clue of what your story is. To prevent this, you can brainstorm a lot before shooting and try and find the absolute best story you could portray.
