The word “opposite” means different and or unalike. It is when two things are not the same in anyway. Some say “opposites attract” and others say “opposites do not attract”. In this context, one side is saying that people who have different characteristics go together very well. The other side is that people who have different characteristics do not go together and don’t work out as friends or more. My photo represents opposites not attracting.

My artwork illustrates a stereotypical view of teenage girls in high school. There are the two girls on the left hand side that appear to be the “popular” girls. This is shown through the one girls attire and their body language. On the right hand side is the “nerdy” girl. That is shown through her glasses, her body language, and the textbooks she is carrying. My photo shows the idea of opposites not attracting because we have these two different groups of girls, and they are not in any sort of contact with each other and the nerdy girl is being excluded.

My artwork was inspired by a stereotype that happens with teenagers at some point in their life. We hear about bullies and how people get bullied for being different from what is expected. We also hear about labels that are given to people. This is important to me because I believe everyone should be allowed to express themselves and be their own person.
