Tension is defined as something being strained or stretched out. Mental or emotional tension is pressure, anxiety, or stress. Tension can come into any sort of situation. For example, if in a relationship the two people argue a lot, that puts strain on their entire relationship. If a single person experiences stress and anxiety, that wears them down and puts pressure on them self. In my photograph, I incorporated both aspects of tension.

My artwork showcases a girl pulling headphones around her neck. The headphones are shown to be choking her. Her facial expression is frustrated and upset. My photo shows the physical view of tension because the headphones are being stretched out tightly. My photo also shows the emotional view of tension because she is trying to strangle herself, revealing that she has personal issues. I chose to use headphones as a symbol for the pressure teens experience on a daily basis.

I got my inspiration for my photo from the horrifying thought of committing suicide. These days, if teenagers are struggling and feel like nothing will get better, they believe suicide is the way out. I think suicide is a serious issue and no one should ever have to think that is the way to make things better. I hope my photo brings the issue of suicide to light.
