Masks Sketchbook

A mask is something we wear to hide from the world. Physically, when we wear masks, the world cannot see our true identity. This concept goes deeper than the physical aspect. For example, if a person is sad and depressed on the inside, they may not appear that way from the outside. They put on a fake smile and act like everything is okay for the world. My photograph portrays the aspect of hiding behind a fake identity.

My artwork illustrates a girl in bed on her laptop. Her facial expressions looks disgusted. This girl is hiding behind her laptop, and using a fake identity to cyber bully. My idea represents a fake identity because she is acting as a different person and using technology to hide behind. The “mask” in this photo is shown to be the laptop because she can hide her true self behind it.

My inspiration for this photo came from the struggle of cyber bullying within teenagers. I believe that cyber bullying is being a coward because the person is hiding and not revealing them self but is being mean to others. From my photograph, I hope others will gain a better understanding of cyber bullying and try to stop it.
