Ownership Artist Statement
Ownership is a powerful thing, especially when it’s over another person. In my artwork I showcased a single person feeling “owned”. To represent this idea, there are three different hands coming from the two sides and bottom of my photo. The hands are grabbing the girl and making it seem as if they are each pulling her in a different direction. This is what some people experience everyday. They can feel like they are being pulled in every direction.

In my artwork, I showed the issues some people face because of their family, friends, and school life. In one direction, her family is pulling her to them, in another, her friends are trying to pull her to them. Then, the other direction, her school work is pulling her in and overpowering her. I used symbolism with the hands so I could physically show the “pulling” of all the things in her life that give her stress.

I chose this concept because I can relate to this idea. On a daily basis, I am torn between my split family, my friends, and my school work. I feel like I am constantly getting pulled in different directions. Experiencing this struggle every day, I wanted to get it out and express it through my artwork.
